About the Firm: History

The firm was founded in 1984 as Teeters & Harvey, when Ralph Teeters and Chip Harvey left their respective firms (Reed Smith and Ballard Spahr) to see if the world was ready for a boutique trust and estate practice.

Those were the early days of the technology revolution, at least insofar as law firms were concerned. Micro computers were just coming into their own, and the theory was that technology would allow a small firm to compete on a equal footing with the “big guys” and would enable it to provide trust and estate services at the same sophisticated level but in a more personalized setting for individuals and their families.

The firm is now known as Teeters Harvey Marrone & Kaier LLP, reflecting the arrival of Edward J. Kaier in 2007 and Licia Año Marrone in 2009. Ed had been a partner at Hepburn Willcox Hamilton & Putnam, after stints as a law clerk to a Federal judge and at Dechert and Kaier & Kaier. His ongoing experience as an independent trustee of three mutual fund groups adds another dimension to the firm's trust practice. Licia had been a senior vice president and the regional trust manager for Wells Fargo Family Wealth, and before that, an associate at Stradley Ronon and a law clerk to a Common Pleas Court judge. As the former chief fiduciary officer at Calibre (now known as Abbot Downing), Licia provides an additional component to the firm's expertise in advising on multi-generational wealth management and philanthropic planning.

The latest additions are Megan E. O'Rourke and Nicholas S. Smith, who came on board as associates in 2015.
